Sally Lightfoot Crab - Percnon gibbesi
A fast moving and visually interesting crab known for its flattened body and spider like legs. Often introduced for algae control and scavenging in marine aquariums.
Care Level:
Moderate. Hardy once established but requires stable water parameters and sufficient hiding areas.
Temperament:
Semi aggressive. Generally peaceful when small but may become territorial or opportunistic as it grows especially in smaller tanks.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef safe with caution. Effective algae grazer but may prey on small fish snails or other invertebrates if underfed.
Diet:
Omnivore. Consumes algae detritus leftover foods and may accept meaty offerings. Regular feeding reduces the risk of predatory behavior.
Minimum Tank Size:
Thirty gallons or larger with ample rockwork and crevices for shelter.
Notes:
Best suited for larger established systems where natural grazing opportunities are abundant. Provide multiple hiding spots to minimize aggression and stress.
